Staying the Course: It Takes a Team

I have been on the road in explorer mode since July 19. What an experience it has been.

As I look in the rearview mirror, I’m reminded that the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route—from Jasper, Canada, to Antelope Wells, New Mexico—is a fitting metaphor for the challenge of youth gun violence in our country.

The route is demanding, difficult, and at times dangerous. Weather only compounds the challenges. Every day requires a decision to stay the course.

But staying the course also requires rest. Sometimes we need to step back, regain our strength, and take the long view. Tackling any significant goal—or confronting a difficult problem—takes endurance.

As I sit in Silverthorne, enjoying some sorely needed rest thanks to an incredibly hospitable couple, I’m reminded that it takes many people to accomplish a big objective.

I’ve written about trail angels leaving unexpected food and water, hosts opening their homes, and campgrounds making room for us. Back home, our board of trustees, staff, and volunteers continue supporting Lord’s Gym Ministries in my absence.

And then there is Betsy, my wife, who is making sacrifices while we are apart because she believes in the purpose behind this ride.

As of September 12, God has provided about $34,000 toward our $70,000 goal.

These funds will support youth programming at Lord’s Gym Ministries as we work to address the devastating impact of youth gun violence. Every person who has given is part of this effort.

Together, we can continue bringing greater awareness to this important issue and trust God to show us how He will glorify Himself through it all.

To give, under “Apply My Donation” select Scott’s Great Divide Ride.

Please share this post and encourage others to get involved—whether with Lord’s Gym Ministries or another organization working to make a difference in the lives of young people.

We all have a role to play.

Blessings, and stand firm.

Scott
